a lazy Apprentice...

I miss my oils. I enjoy the ability to get strong colors, the problem is I am in a phase where I won't take the time to use them. The clean-up, the smell, etc... Sketching and using Watercolors keeps me creating, but I can't seem to get the rich colors with them. I also enjoy the immediacy of watercolors, throw it on and Wham they're dry. I also tend to look very Cartoonistic with them, maybe that's my style. anyway... I think I'll start an oil, even if its a bad one just to keep things shook up. Although, I'll actually have to clean my brushes again : (
Not wanting to just ramble on without a picture, here is a Digital study I did a while back. I'll post the oil of it next.

I had a Bad day...

It seemed it was one thing after the other all day. I don't which it would be worse to be? The face or the fly?

A quick pen sketch while I was watching "Appaloosa"

You can't learn the Blues, they just sneak up on you.

I was watching a Blues Guitar teaching video and had it paused to work on some of the scales being taught, I looked up and liked the paused screen. I sketched it out. I decided to post it before I put color to it...just in case : ) Space Pen 8-1/2" x 5-1/2". sketchbook.

It is Sunday...

I watched a documentary about Robert Crumb. Quite a character that guy. I sketched this while watching it, he wore a hat like this quite a bit.
I must say that the Scanner is not kind to sketches, it seems to bring out the faults that aren't noticed in the casual glance.
Space Pen then watercolor, 8-1/2" x 5-1/2"

Vivien-Field Middle School

This is a Middle School in Carrollton Texas. I was there early for a bid walk-through. While I was waiting I sketched this and water-colored it when I got home. 5-1/2" x 7-1/2" across the fold in my sketchbook.

I dream of Flying Fish

I had a dream. I was walking down a road and came to a stream. As I looked at the stream a fish slowly floated out of it and began to talk to me. I woke up. So I drew this.

Bandit

My Fox Terrier Bandit. Asleep is the only time he sits still long enough to be sketched. His is great to draw because of his distinct colorings.

Sketch Crawl 25

I went to the Ft. Worth Botanical Gardens for the 25th Sketch Crawl. This was a modern sculpture that I thought was pretty cool. 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" ball point pen and watercolors. It was nice to meet the other Sketchers.

All those beautiful plants and I paint the sculpture!

Turtle Boy

I just love the colors in this one. I used a fisher Space Pen and just drew it real quick. The color scheme really makes it great for me. I stole the colors from an earlier sketch of a candle.

Faces

I made several bad Sketches and then found myself making a bunch of pictures like this. I'm not sure if it is a portrait, character study or what you would call it. I decided to just have fun and draw what comes. Pen and Ink in an 8 1/2" X 5 1/2" with watercolor on top.

Abby

I picked up a great DVD by Jason Seiler on Sketching. I was inspired to start a Sketchbook and this was my first Sketch. It is my dog Abby laying on her pillow beside the couch.
I will be exploring the art of Sketching in this blog. I'll be uploading my sketches, and share my journey in to Art and Color
